The Contship Nobility

In early 2001 I sailed from Melbourne to London on board the Constship Nobility.

The Nobility is a container ship of 31730 Gross Tonnes, is 192.5 metres long, 32 metres wide with a 12.8 metre draft. She has a cruising speed of 22.6 knots and was built in Koje, Korea, in 1997 by Samsung. She has a capacity of 2750 TEU. For more information on Containerization, and what TEU means, check this link

This set of images was taken on the port wing bridge and some of the joins are wonky because there was a reasonable swell. Trying to line up horizontal as well as vertical joins was more than my brain was capable of.

As with the other panoramas on these pages click and drag within the image to move it around. And, if you use GoogleEarth look at the main panoramas page on this site for downloadable KMZ files to find the exact locations in GoogleEarth.

As it happens, this image was taken near the southern tip of India, over one of the deepest bits of ocean on Earth. Below the ship at this point the surface of the Earth was about five kilometres straight down. There is no land in sight anywhere near the ship. In fact, there was no land for hundreds of miles in any direction. The hummocks in the horizon are join problems in the image.

Contship sold the Nobility in 2003. She became the P&O Nedlloyd Newark and looks like this.Schiffs-Fotos.de For more info on her look elsewhere on this site.
